Partner institutions

Options for cooperation

The ASA Programme and the learning experiences of participants are further enriched through the many different partner institutions in countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and South-East Europe. Get involved and find out more about the fields of activity and the programme formats (basic and global).

Organisations of international cooperation and the civil society

ASA NGO basic or ASA NGO global

The ASA Programme has gained many years’ experience cooperating with governmental and non-governmental organisations, such as implementing organisations of the German Development Cooperation, NGOs and foundations. In mostly interdisciplinary teams, the participants make a professional contribution to a specific project that meets the needs of the partner institutions. It is the basis for exchange and mutual learning.

Organisations of international cooperation and the civil society can use all programme formats: basic and global.

ASA NGO basic

Overview:

Project proposal: You can submit a proposal for a project as an organisation from Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe.
Length of project and region: The project phase in Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe lasts three months.
Participants: Participants are young people who reside in Germany and spend the project phase working in teams of two or three people.

Partner institutions that have already cooperated with the ASA Programme can submit their project proposals by 15 August. All other partner institutions can submit their project proposals by 15 September.

ASA NGO global

Overview:

Project proposal: Organisations from a country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe together with one from Germany can propose a project.
Length of project and region: The project phase lasts a total of six months, with three months spent in Germany and another three months in a country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe.
Participants: Participants will conduct their projects as a team that consists of young people from both Germany and the respective partner country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe. Together, they attend the ASA seminars, which are held in English.

Companies and business-related organisations

ASApreneurs basic

Since 2008, the ASA Programme has been working with internationally cooperating companies and business-related organisations that want to work toward sustainable development in the economy and cooperate with committed young people.

ASApreneurs enables young people to forge economic and social processes as a dialogue and develop sustainable strategies for global issues. The programme teaches participants the theories and trends taking place in sustainable economic transformation and gives them the necessary skills and helps them find the contacts so they can initiate, monitor and implement change processes in this area.

In the field of sustainable business, the ASA programme would also like to offer the global format with international teams of participants; you can currently propose six-month projects for ASApreneurs basic.

ASApreneurs basic

Overview:

Project proposal: The project is based on a proposal from Germany-based companies or business-related organisations that are guided in their actions by social responsibility and sustainability and have international projects or partner structures. The project proposal is submitted together with a partner institution of the company in a country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe.
Length of project and region: The project phase lasts six month, with three months spent in Germany and another three months spent at a partner institution in the partner country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe.
Participants: Participants are young people who reside in Germany and complete their project individually or in a tandem.

ASApreneurs global

Overview

Project proposal: The project is based on a proposal from Germany-based companies or business-related organisations that are guided in their actions by social responsibility and sustainability and have international projects or partner structures. The project proposal is submitted together with a partner institution of the company in a country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe.
Length of project and region: The project phase lasts six month, with three months spent in Germany and another three months spent at a partner institution in the partner country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or South-East Europe.
Participants: Participants are young people who reside in Germany as well as participants from the partner country of Africa, Asia, Latin America and South-Eastern Europe.

Universities and their partners from business and the civil society

ASA Academia basic or ASA Academia global

ASA Academia targets universities and their partners from business and the civil society that conduct international projects in the field of sustainability. The aim is to better anchor sustainability in the activities at universities: A scholarship enables students to enrich their academic commitment with practical experience in development policy. The projects need to demonstrate a clear connection to global sustainability; otherwise, there are no other specific technical requirements. The project proposal can be based on an existing research project, enabling the student to further develop and broaden their studies through participation in ASA. After the project phase, the ASA participants return to their respective universities as change agents and contribute with their experiences and impulses to teaching and research (for example through bachelor and master theses or presentations).

Some of the projects within the framework of ASA Academia occur in businesses that embrace principles of sustainability, thus enabling participants to combine foundational research with practical experiences in an ideal manner.

ASA Academia basic

Project proposal: The project is based on a proposal of a university or college based in Germany with international projects or partner structures that are involved in innovative research and applied science for sustainability.
Length of project and region: The project phase lasts six month, with three months spent in Germany and another three months spent at a partner institution in a country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or Southeast Europe.
Participants: Participants are young people who reside in Germany and complete their project individually or in a tandem.
