Do you work for an organisation that pursues social, environmental or cultural goals? Are you looking for young people who are committed to fair and sustainable development? Join the ASA Programme!
The ASA Programme is a development oriented exchange and scholarship programme for students and young people with vocational training from Germany and partner countries worldwide. Together with the participants, you, as a project partner, will implement a three- or six-month project in the fields of business, science or civil society. You will benefit from technical support, new perspectives and international exchange – while inspiring young people to engage in global sustainable development.
The ASA Programme is offered by Engagement Global gGmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The ASA Programme is additionally financed by several German federal states.
Each summer project partners worldwide are invited to submit their project proposals for the upcoming year. During the three- or six-month project phase participants work in your organisation – for example in areas such as public relations, workshop and campaign design, research or product development. By collaborating with your team, participants develop practical solutions, bring in fresh ideas, and further dvelop both their professional and intercultural skills.
"Our ASA projects on urban gardening bring people from Aachen and Cape Town together. They learn together and from each other, which is a real added value for the people in both cities., Norbert Kuntz, Aachen-Cape Town partnership.
Please note that participants are not external experts; but learners who will work with you as part of your project and contribute to completing specific tasks.
If you would like to collaborate with the ASA Programme, please select the appropriate programme component. The components ‘ASA NGO’, “ASApreneurs” and ‘ASA Academia’ are designed for different actors in civil society, the business sector and academia.
In addition, you can choose between two formats, that differ in terms of the composition of the project teams: basic and global.
The basic format is tailored to students, young professionals and people with a bachelor's degree or vocational training who live in Germany. The project phase takes place over three months in a partner country in Africa, Asia, Latin America or Southeast Europe. For projects with a duration of six months (ASApreneurs basic and ASA Academia basic), this is complemented by an additional three-months project phase in Germany.

In the global format, international students, young professionals and people with a bachelor's degree or vocational training work together on a single project: two participants from Germany and two from a partner country jointly implement the project. It begins with a three-month phase in Germany and is followed by a three-month project phase in a partner country in Africa, Asia, Latin America, or Southeast Europe. This creates an intensive exchange on an equal footing, enabling all participants to learn from each other and grow together.
